Just IN: Spencer Dinwiddie Debunks Rumored Recruitment That…

Your Los Angeles Lakers’ newest addition, veteran point guard Spencer Dinwiddie, has disputed the notion that friend and now-teammate Christian Wood was the player primarily responsible for recruiting Dinwiddie, an LA native who attended Taft High School in Woodland Hills, to join his hometown club.

Wood himself had previously claimed as much.

As Dave McMenamin of ESPN shares, it was a slightly starrier name who ultimately won Dinwiddie over (he also was considering a reunion with the Dallas Mavericks):

“How the hell are we going to give C-Wood the credit? What are we doing? Hey look, C-Wood was impactful, [but[ I’m giving the credit to Bron,” Dinwiddie joked.

Dinwiddie, 30, was probably the most sought-after buyout market free agent this year (so far, anyway), having been unceremoniously cut by the rebuilding Toronto Raptors after they acquired him in a deal with the Brooklyn Nets. Dinwiddie had started all 48 of his games for the Nets, but will slot in behind D’Angelo Russell for Los Angeles. He’s essentially a replacement for Gabe Vincent, who has played just five games since signing with the Lakers due to a pesky left knee effusion.

In his first game for Los Angeles, the 6’5″ Colorado product scored six points on 2-of-6 shooting from the floor (1-of-5 from deep) and 1-of-1 shooting from the foul line, dished out seven dimes, grabbed two boards and swiped two picks. On the year thus far overall (i.e. between his Brooklyn and LA stints), Dinwiddie is averaging 12.4 points on .390/.318/.783 shooting splits, six assists (against 1.3 turnovers), 3.3 rebounds and 0.8 steals a night.
