In Napoli’s 4-0 victory over Lecce earlier today, Victor Osimhen appeared to have found his scoring touch again.
Osimhen has scored twice in back-to-back contests since Napoli’s official TikTok page posted two videos making fun of the 24-year-old Nigerian striker for missing a penalty against Bologna on September 24.
The Nigerian international had a four-game goal drought before to last Sunday in all competitions, which was in contrast to his productive form in the 2022–2023 season.
Remember that the striker helped Napoli win the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years last season by scoring 26 goals and dishing out five assists in 32 games.
Osimhen had three goals in his first two league games this season, giving the impression that he was about to accomplish the same feat or perhaps even better. But after a few games, that stopped, allowing others—including Napoli’s supporters—to begin questioning his ability to score.
The 24-year-old striker, who has scored goals in the last two games, appears to have been pushed to the limit. Recall that on September 27, Osimhen scored in Napoli’s 4-1 victory over Udinese.
Coach Rudi Garcia made the choice to start Osimhen off the bench in the 46th minute of the match against Lecce earlier today after the first half concluded with a 1-0 lead.
He scored Napoli’s second goal in the 51st minute and had the opportunity to score from the penalty spot, but he choose to let Gianluca Gaetano take the kick instead, which he converted to give Napoli the victory.
