Former Premier League striker Darren Bent has said which Chelsea player would slot straight into Gary O’Neil’s starting XI at Wolves.
During his time at Molineux, Gary O’Neil has got the best out of his talent at Wolves, improving the fortunes of several players.
He’s transformed Rayan Ait-Nouri, Matheus Cunha, Joao Gomes and Hwang Hee-Chan, to name a few, despite arriving at the club last August.
Currently, the Old Gold are going through an injury crisis, but when O’Neil has a fully fit starting XI to pick from, his side are a joy to watch. This season they’ve put Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea to the sword at Molineux while doing the double over the latter.
Chelsea were shell shocked on both occasions against O’Neil’s team, leaving many questioning which of their players would slot into the starting XI at Wolves.

Chelsea have spent over a billion to assemble a squad of talented stars, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side is proof in the pudding that spending a war chest of funds doesn’t guarantee success.
The Blues are currently ninth in the table, trailing seventh-place Newcastle by three points and remarkably, a whopping 30 points behind table toppers Arsenal.
As a result of their spending, a few of their talented superstars have found themselves on the periphery under Pochettino, including Raheem Sterling.
Captured from Manchester City for £50 million in July 2022, the Englishman hasn’t reached the heights expected at Stamford Bridge and has only started in two of their last nine matches.
With a potential departure mooted this summer, former Premier League striker Darren Bent has been discussing his future on talkSPORT, claiming he wouldn’t get into any of the top sides, namely Arsenal and Liverpool, but could potentially get into Wolves starting XI.
“Wolves maybe on the left potentially he would start,” Bent said. “But I’m not disrespecting Wolves here, they’ve got some good players.”
Would Wolves take Raheem Sterling?
O’Neil needs to bolster his attack this summer, especially if Pedro Neto departs, so a player like Sterling would fit the agenda.
The 29-year-old is a four-time Premier League winner and has accrued 376 appearances in the top flight, scoring 121 goals and assisting 66.
Sterling’s quality alone would undoubtedly see him slot into the Wolves starting XI, but his experience at the highest level would make signing him a no-brainer.
Of course, with his £325k-a-week wages and a hefty transfer fee to boot, signing the fleet-footed Englishman is well out of their realm but he fits the profile of what they need.
A winger who possesses electric pace and outrageous dribbling ability to challenge the likes of Cunha, Hwang and Ait-Nouri is what O’Neil will be looking for in this window, so it’s a shame Sterling would be virtually impossible to sign.
