Chelsea are likely to breach the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules after admitting to an overspend in their latest accounts.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed it is almost certain the Blues will be handed a points deduction and possibly a transfer embargo.
There has so far been no update provided on the situation and no charges handed out to the club, but Football Insider revealed on 18 April that the Premier League is still conducting its investigation into the matter.
The west London outfit posted a loss of £90million in their 2022-23 financial results, with the league’s rules stating top-flight clubs can lose a maximum of £105million over a rolling three-year period.
After points deductions have been handed out to both Everton and Nottingham Forest this season, it seems increasingly likely that Chelsea will be dealt with in a similar fashion.

There have long been concerns raised about the recent spending sprees at Stamford Bridge after several players have been brought in on big-money deals since Todd Boely took over the club in 2022.
Chelsea have also been investigated by the Premier League for potential financial breaches during Roman Abramovich’s tenure, but no charges have so far been forthcoming.
O’Rourke noted that US consortium BlueCo, the ownership group in charge of the Blues, is expecting to receive a punishment after admitting to the financial discretion.
It’s likely that will come in the form of a points deduction after Everton were handed an eight-point penalty for two separate charges, while Forest were deducted four points.
It could take Boely and his fellow Chelsea chiefs some time to get on top of the financial situation at Stamford Bridge due to the number of charges that could be heading their way.
