The buzz around Jeremiah Smith was electric all offseason. I was excited too, especially after the Spring Game. But, he hadn’t played a real college football game yet, so there was a bit of uncertainty. That changed on Saturday when he took the field for Ohio State against the Akron Zips. He had a shaky start, dropping his first pass and getting penalized for not being set. But, that was pretty much his only mistake. He went on to lead all receivers with six catches, 92 yards, and two touchdowns. What’s more impressive is that he’s just a true freshman!

Quarterback Will Howard seemed to trust him right away, making him his go-to target. This is a big deal because Smith is stepping into the role left by Marvin Harrison Jr. Many wondered if he could live up to the hype, but after this game, some fans might even say he’s better than Harrison by the end of the season. Harrison didn’t start as a freshman, and he was surrounded by more experienced receivers. Smith and Harrison are similar in size, with Smith at 6’3″ and 215 pounds, and Harrison at 6’4″ and 205 pounds.

Smith’s physical style of play could make him a fan favorite, and he might even surpass Harrison in the eyes of Buckeye fans. Both players will be remembered as all-time greats at Ohio State. The team must be thrilled with Smith’s debut performance. He already seems to have a strong connection with Howard, which will only grow stronger as the season progresses. He might already be the best receiver on the team!

Let’s break it down further. Smith’s first drive was a bit of a disaster, but he quickly turned things around. He showed incredible poise and skill for a freshman, leading the team in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. His chemistry with Howard was undeniable, and he seemed to be the quarterback’s favorite target. This is a great sign for the team’s offense, especially considering Smith is still learning the ropes.

The comparison to Harrison is inevitable, given their similar builds and roles on the team. However, Smith has already shown he can make an impact in his first game, whereas Harrison didn’t start until later in his freshman year. Of course, Harrison was surrounded by more experienced receivers, which might have affected his playing time.

Despite the hype, some fans were skeptical about Smith’s ability to live up to expectations. But, after this performance, it’s clear he’s the real deal. He might even surpass Harrison’s achievements, which is a testament to his hard work and dedication. Both players will be remembered as all-time greats at Ohio State, and their contributions to the team will be cherished by fans for years to come.

The Ohio State football team has to be ecstatic about Smith’s debut. He’s already showing signs of being a top receiver, and his chemistry with Howard will only continue to grow. As the season progresses, we can expect even bigger things from Smith. He might already be the best receiver on the team, which is a remarkable achievement for a true freshman.

In conclusion, Jeremiah Smith’s first game was a resounding success. He showed incredible skill, poise, and chemistry with his quarterback. While there were some initial doubts about his ability to live up to the hype, he’s quickly silenced critics with his impressive performance. As the season continues, we can expect even bigger things from Smith, and he might just become the best receiver on the team.
