The Cleveland Browns secured a crucial Week 2 victory to even their record at 1-1, though it wasn’t a flawless performance.
Offensively, the team continues to face challenges. Deshaun Watson has been underwhelming, and the running game hasn’t been particularly effective either.
Given these struggles, could the Browns consider acquiring another running back?
Recently, it was suggested that the Browns might target Houston Texans’ running back Dameon Pierce in a trade. Would such a move be logical? Pierce, currently a backup behind Joe Mixon, has shown potential in his first three NFL seasons but hasn’t been able to solidify his role.
In 28 games, Pierce has rushed 368 times for 1,371 yards and six touchdowns, along with 43 receptions for 266 yards and one touchdown.
At just 24 years old, a change of scenery could benefit Pierce. Acquiring him likely wouldn’t be costly—a fifth- or sixth-round pick might be enough. Pierce could provide depth to the Browns’ running game until Nick Chubb returns from injury.
Although there were high hopes for Watson to improve this season, he has yet to show significant progress, so the running game will need to shoulder a large portion of the offense.
While it’s uncertain if Pierce would make a major impact, he’s worth considering. He might prove to be a valuable addition alongside Jerome Ford as the Browns aim to solidify their running attack while Chubb recovers.
