The New England Patriots have bolstered their edge defense by signing Jamree Kromah off the Chicago Bears’ practice squad. Kromah fills the roster spot vacated by Oshane Ximines, who was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.
Kromah’s collegiate career began at Rutgers, where he played 23 games over three seasons, recording 17 tackles and 0.5 sacks. He then transferred to James Madison, where his production significantly improved. In 2022, he notched 21 tackles and 3.5 sacks in ten games. His breakout year came in 2023, with 59 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks in 13 games, earning him first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors.
Kromah’s impressive 2023 performance, which included a stint at both defensive tackle and defensive end, caught the attention of NFL scouts. Despite not receiving a Combine invitation, he posted impressive measurables in pre-draft testing, including a 4.77 40-yard dash and 1.70 10-yard split. Although his size (6-4, 275 pounds) raised concerns about his defensive tackle prospects, Kromah’s athleticism and versatility make him an intriguing addition.
After going undrafted in April, Kromah signed with the Chicago Bears and remained with the team through camp before being released and re-signed to the practice squad. Now, with the Patriots, Kromah has an opportunity to make his NFL debut and contribute to New England’s edge defense. His versatility and pass-rushing potential make him a valuable asset to the team.
