Barcelona are now being linked with a Chelsea first-team player, but their chances of actually signing him are rated at “zero”.
There’s a long list of high-profile footballers that have played for both Chelsea and Barcelona in their careers. For example, the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Pedro, Samuel Eto’o, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Andreas Christensen Deco and Joao Felix have represented both European giants.
Journalist Simon Phillips recently told Substack that Chelsea have been tracking Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.
Now, it turns out the Spanish heavyweights have been looking at the Blues squad for potential transfer targets of their own.
Barcelona eye Romeo Lavia
According to Simon Phillips via his Substack on Tuesday, Barcelona have registered an interest in signing Chelsea’s Romeo Lavia.
It is explained that Hansi Flick’s side are keen on bringing the 20-year-old Blues midfielder to the Camp Nou.
Phillips adds that club sources say there’s “absolutely zero chance” that Chelsea would entertain any offers for Lavia because he’s viewed as an integral player for Enzo Maresca moving forward. Apparently, they’d say that the Belgium international is not for sale at any price.
Interestingly, Barcelona also have an interest in Carney Chukwuemeka and Enzo Fernandez, along with Lavia.
Chelsea right to refuse sale
Chelsea supporters only have a very small sample size to go off when it comes to Lavia, who’s been so unfortunate with injuries since he joined the club from Southampton in the summer of 2023.
However, the deep-lying defensive midfielder has looked a class act on the rare occasions he’s played, including in the weekend’s 2-1 league defeat to Liverpool.
Speaking via ESPN a few months ago, Noni Madueke hailed Chelsea teammate Lavia as an “elite talent”.
We’re convinced that Lavia can be such a key player in Maresca’s XI if he can keep himself fit because he’s so intelligent and calm in possession.
