Cole Palmer is “not interested” in leaving Chelsea despite links with a sensational return to Man City in recent weeks.
This is according to former Man United, Tottenham and West Ham scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the London giants are also not interested in letting him leave.
Palmer, 22, was rewarded for his brilliant form since moving to Stamford Bridge with a new nine-year contract in August, tying him to the club until 2033.
He has now made 55 appearances for the club since he joined, and has scored 31 goals and provided 20 assists during that time.
Reports claimed that Pep Guardiola’s side were considering re-signing him as a long-term replacement for Kevin de Bruyne.
However, some at the Etihad believe that deal would be a bad look for the club as an admission that they were wrong to have sold him for £40million in 2023.
As a result, any talk over a return for Palmer is considered premature, with all three parties currently opposed to the possbility.
Brown went on to claim that the England international’s performances have been as a result of the atmosphere at Chelsea allowing him to thrive.
Cole Palmer to turn down Man City return amid reported interest
Football Insider revealed on 18 October that Chelsea are not interested in entertaining offers for their star player, and it would take a “world-record fee” for them to take notice.
Now, Brown, who spent over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that the attacking midfielder wants to repay the faith the Blues have shown in him.
“Not interested – that’s his position,” Brown told Football Insider.
“From what I’ve heard, Chelsea won’t let him leave, and he doesn’t want to go.
“I’m doubtful over whether City would want him back either.
“He’s done exceedingly well for both Chelsea and England since he left City and he’s been allowed to thrive and keep improving. It looks like the perfect place for him.
“City didn’t seem to value him as the next star off their production line and were happy to let him go.
“I think they probably regret that now, but I’m told they’d be worried about the sort of look it would give if they paid big money for his return.
“It’s almost an admission that they made a mistake and that wouldn’t reflect well.
“Would he go back there? No, I don’t think so. He’ll want to repay the faith Chelsea have had him him and he’s doing that already with his performances.”
