Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has explained the mysterious absence of Jadon Sancho from the match day squad since the game against Liverpool. The forward started at Anfield was hooked at half time and was never seen in games that followed.
At the weekend he was inedible to play against his mother club Manchester United because technically he’s only out on loan at Chelsea even though there is an obligation to make the deal permeant. Sancho had a storming start to life as a Chelsea player, grabbing an assist on his debut and repeated the trick in the two games that followed up.
He quickly forced the manager to integrate him in other the squad and that helped Chelsea win games- but he’s absence has been very visible and manager was forced to explain his absence by saying he was ill for some time but also picked up an injury.
There is a huge chance that he might not be seen again until after the international break. Maresca said when asked about Sancho: “Jadon is recovering from illness but he also had a knock in a session. Tomorrow he is out but we will see if he can be available for Sunday’s game, otherwise it will be after the international break for him.”
Chelsea looking for statement win
One of the things that is missing in Chelsea’s latest emergence is that they are lacking a big win. They lost to Manchester City and Liverpool and grabbed a draw against Manchester United so there is feeling that this is the game they should be able to win and send out a message that they are here for good.
One thing that has change for them to stand a chance though is that Chelsea have conceded at least once in each of their past six Premier League home games, last having a longer such run between December 2015 and August 2016. They need to tighten up at the back.
