Philadelphia’s defense has become the No. 1 unit in the league for many reasons, including its good defensive line play. Without Sweat and Davis, the Eagles could struggle to stop the Commanders’ offense led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.
The Eagles are thin at edge rusher with only four players active today, including Sweat. Second-year edge rusher Nolan Smith and rookie Jalyx Hunt will have to replace Sweat’s production if he can’t come back.
Veteran edge rusher Charles Harris, who signed with the Eagles last month, would be the third edge rusher in the rotation.
Davis could return after halftime.
The Eagles have a lot of defensive tackle depth. Milton Williams and Jalen Carter would handle the majority of the snaps if Davis can’t return.
Backup defensive tackles Moro Ojomo and Thomas Booker haven’t played a lot of snaps this season, but they have flashed at times. Ojomo and Booker might have to play more in the second half against the Commanders.
