The Florida Gators have been named a finalist by four-star defensive lineman Darryus McKinley, marking the third blue-chip prospect at the position to consider the Gators in the 2026 recruiting class. McKinley, a 6-foot-3, 270-pound standout from Lafayette (La.) Acadiana, has narrowed his options to Florida, LSU, Tennessee, and Texas.
While the Gators are still in contention, they appear to be facing an uphill battle, as McKinley’s in-state school, LSU, seems to hold a significant advantage. The Tigers are currently home to McKinley’s brother, Dominick, a five-star defensive lineman who signed with LSU in 2024. Recruiting expert Jerit Roser predicted McKinley would pledge to the Tigers as far back as October.
However, the Gators have a proven track record of making strong pushes for top recruits, particularly during spring camp and the summer evaluation period. With defensive line coach Gerald Chatman returning for his second season, despite overtures from LSU and the Chicago Bears, the Gators boast a talented and experienced staff that can help sway McKinley’s decision.
As the recruiting season heats up, the Gators will look to capitalize on their momentum and make a compelling case for McKinley to join their 2026 class. With the talented defensive lineman still considering his options, Florida remains in the hunt, eager to add another elite prospect to their roster.
