The Florida Gators’ spring football camp is in full swing, with the team returning to the field last Thursday. As the Gators look to build on their 8-5 season, head coach Billy Napier’s squad is rallying behind young talent like rising sophomore DJ Lagway and five-star recruit Dallas Wilson. Offensive coordinator Russ Callaway is impressed with the high-powered offense, noting that the starters are not only the best players but also the ones putting in extra work and time.
The 2025 Florida recruiting class was a resounding success, with 26 commits and five transfers, totaling a class score of 91.88. With the departure of wide receivers Elijah Badger and Chimere Dike, Napier brought in four new wideouts: Vernell Brown, Dallas Wilson, Naeshaun Montgomery, and transfer J. Michael Sturdivant. These new additions will be catching passes from Lagway, who showed plenty of promise last season.
Callaway is particularly impressed with the #GRIND25HINE group, which has caught his eye both on the field and in the gym. “They’re really good players, but they’re extremely hard workers,” Callaway said. “I have not seen a young group like this. It’s almost annoying how much they’re up here wanting to get extra work in.”
Callaway also praised three-star recruit Cameron Kossmann, a tight end who was named to the First Team All-Conference in 2024. “Every year, there is a crop of kids, Cam being one of them, who improve so much from their junior to senior year,” Callaway said. “You turn the tape on, and it’s like, this guy is as good as anybody we’ve signed in the last four years.”
As the Gators continue their spring football preparations, the Orange & Blue game on Saturday, April 12, at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium promises to be an exciting showcase of the team’s talent and progress.
