As the Georgia Bulldogs embark on their spring practice session, the team is facing a significant injury challenge. Head coach Kirby Smart provided updates on several key players who will be unavailable or limited during the upcoming weeks of practice.
According to Smart, a group of players, including offensive tackle Monroe Freeling, edge rusher Gabe Harris, tight end Colton Heinrich, defensive tackle Christen Miller, and defensive back Jaylan Morgan, are recovering from shoulder surgeries. This quintet will be working their way back to full strength, but their participation in spring practice will be limited.
Additionally, several players are dealing with injuries to their knees, ankles, and other body parts. Quarterback Ryan Montgomery (ACL), running backs Branson Robinson (knee) and Roderick Robinson (ankle), and punter Brett Thorson (MCL/ACL repair) will be restricted to walkthrough-type activities and will not participate fully in practice.
Defensive lineman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye will also be limited as he recovers from a foot injury, while cornerback Daylen Everette will be eased back into action following a sports hernia. Everette, a trusted member of the Bulldogs’ defense, is expected to play a key role in the upcoming season after a standout campaign in 2024.
The injuries may present some challenges for the Bulldogs during spring practice, but Smart and his coaching staff will use this opportunity to develop and evaluate other players on the roster. As the team works towards the 2025 season, they will be focused on building depth and getting their injured players back to full strength.
