New Era Begins: Eli Tomac’s Final Season with Yamaha and Haiden Deegan’s 450 Class Promotion

Eli Tomac’s final season with Yamaha is set for 2025, after which he’ll join a new team. This move coincides with Haiden Deegan’s promotion to the 450 class in 2026. Tomac’s departure from Yamaha marks a significant shift in the motocross landscape.

Tomac, 32, has had a successful stint with Yamaha since 2022, securing Supercross and Pro Motocross victories. Despite a serious injury in 2023, he returned with renewed focus in 2024. However, sources suggest Tomac had begun considering his next chapter, seeking less pressure and more flexibility.

Reports indicate Tomac will join a new team in 2026, possibly on a limited schedule focused on select races and international events. This move could allow him to compete selectively while mentoring younger talent.

Meanwhile, Haiden Deegan’s promotion to the 450 class in 2026 positions him as a key rider for Yamaha. The 18-year-old phenom has shown remarkable progression in the 250 class, with multiple podiums and a breakout performance at the 2024 Motocross of Nations. Deegan’s aggressive style, media presence, and strong work ethic make him an attractive prospect for the team.

Yamaha team officials have expressed confidence in Deegan’s abilities, citing his maturity and adaptability. Though the transition to the 450 class is challenging, insiders believe Deegan’s mental toughness and brand appeal equip him to handle the pressure.

The transition comes at a pivotal time for the sport, with older legends scaling back and a new generation emerging. The 2026 season promises to be exciting, featuring a blend of youthful energy and veteran strategy. Fans will be eager to see how Deegan adapts to the premier class and how Tomac fares in his new role.

In essence, 2025 represents both a farewell to Tomac’s Yamaha era and the beginning of a new chapter for Yamaha with Deegan at the helm. The stage is set for a dramatic and transitional year in motocross.
