Guitar legend Jake E. Lee experienced a heartfelt moment a Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s farewell concert, Back to the Beginning, where he defied physical setbacks and rekindled his bond with Osbourne. The event marked a significant milestone for Lee, who has faced significant hurdles, including a recent shooting and ongoing arthritis.
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s Ozzy’s Boneyard, Lee recounted the overwhelming moment when he took the stage. “I walked out, and Nuno [Bettencourt] had the crowd chanting my name. It was intense—I’m shocked I didn’t stumble,” Lee shared. The warm reception underscored the emotional weight of his return, especially after a traumatic incident in October 2024, when he was shot three times while confronting thieves in his neighborhood. The injuries, including a critical hit to his left forearm, threatened his guitar-playing ability but fortunately spared his bones and joints, allowing a swift recovery.
Lee also discussed his battle with arthritis, which had sidelined his playing for years due to severe wrist pain. “X-rays showed no cartilage left—it’s bone on bone,” he explained, noting that rehabilitation had been helping before the shooting occurred. Despite these challenges, Lee delivered a stellar performance, playing Ozzy Osbourne classics like “The Ultimate Sin” and “Shot in the Dark.”
The concert not only showcased Lee’s resilience but also marked a reconciliation with Osbourne, mending their friendship. The overwhelming crowd support, sparked by Bettencourt, left Lee deeply moved, making the event a triumphant moment in his recovery and a celebration of his enduring legacy in rock music.
