Spiranac, 32, stated that the heckling of McIlroy, which included a drink thrown from the stands that struck his wife, Erica Stoll, was part of a broader pattern of inappropriate fan conduct. She emphasized that while enthusiastic cheering is acceptable, crossing into abusive behavior ruins the experience for everyone. “Drunk and rude fans are spoiling games,” she wrote, noting that such incidents are not exclusive to golf.
Drawing from personal experience, Spiranac recounted witnessing similar behavior at a football game, where an intoxicated man shouted insults, spilled drinks, and attempted to start fights. She was particularly disturbed by the man’s young nephew, around seven years old, mimicking the abusive language while his family laughed. Spiranac likened this to the Bethpage incident, calling the act of throwing objects at players or their families “unacceptable.” She demanded a lifetime ban for the fan responsible for the drink-throwing incident and shared a video clip of it on X to underscore her point.
Spiranac’s comments reflect growing concerns about fan conduct at high-profile sports events, urging stricter measures to ensure respect and safety for players and attendees alike.
