American alpine skiing legend Lindsey Vonn has disclosed undergoing egg freezing as she prepares for her competitive return and upcoming retirement at the 2026 Milan Olympics.
In a candid interview with TIME Magazine, where she graces the November cover, the 41-year-old athlete shared insights into her personal life alongside her professional comeback. Vonn, who retired in 2019 before staging a remarkable return, revealed the procedure allows her flexibility in family planning without added pressure.
“I’m not stressed about it, which gives me peace of mind,” Vonn said. “But that’s definitely something that I’m really looking forward to.”
The three-time Olympic medalist is gearing up for the new season, with the Milan Games marking her swan song on the Olympic stage. She concluded the previous World Cup campaign triumphantly, securing a podium finish at the finals in Sun Valley, Idaho—becoming the oldest woman to achieve the feat in alpine skiing history.
Vonn also opened up about adopting a puppy after the April 2025 death of her dog Lucy, highlighting the isolation of life on the tour. “The only negative about the sport is you just go home to an empty hotel room,” she noted. “It’s a tough life to live. I don’t have to live it that lonely.”
TIME Cover Dedication to Late Mother
Expressing profound emotion on Instagram, Vonn dedicated her TIME feature to her mother, Linda Krohn Lund, who succumbed to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2022.
“MOM, I’M ON THE COVER OF TIME MAGAZINE!!!” she posted. “As my eyes fill with tears (not ideal while doing intervals on the bike 🥹), I can’t quite put into words what this means to me. @TIME was always one of my mom’s favorite magazines… I know she would be proud.”
Vonn was recently spotted at the F1 Miami Grand Prix, blending her high-profile status across sports ahead of the skiing season.
