American ski superstar Mikaela Shiffrin has publicly celebrated her fiancé Aleksander Aamodt Kilde’s courageous comeback to the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, nearly two years after a devastating crash that left him with serious injuries.
On December 4, 2025, Kilde raced his first downhill since January 2024, competing at the famed Birds of Prey course in Beaver Creek, Colorado. The 32-year-old Norwegian, who suffered a deep laceration to his right calf and a dislocated shoulder with two torn ligaments in the Wengen crash, finished an encouraging 11th place in his first speed event back.
Shiffrin, fresh off clinching her record-extending 104th World Cup victory at Copper Mountain, immediately took to Instagram to share her pride and emotion. Reposting footage of Kilde’s run, the five-time overall crystal globe winner wrote:
“A hero and a KING ”
The couple’s bond was on full display earlier in the season as well. At Kilde’s first race back (a downhill in Beaver Creek the previous week), he placed 24th, but received a roaring ovation from the home crowd. Shiffrin, watching alongside her mother in the finish area, was overcome with emotion and tearfully embraced Kilde as he came down the leader hill.
Shiffrin and Kilde, who met in 2014 but only began dating in 2021 following the passing of Shiffrin’s father, announced their engagement in April 2024. In a recent episode of Shiffrin’s podcast “What’s The Point with Mikaela,” the couple addressed persistent questions about wedding plans with humor and reassurance.
“We’re going to get married, guys, calm down. It’s gonna happen,” Shiffrin laughed.
Kilde added, “You’re the woman of my life and that’s gonna happen… We don’t have to rush it.”
Kilde also admitted he could practically read Shiffrin’s mind when he proposed, knowing her packed racing calendar would require patience on timing the ceremony.
With Shiffrin already qualified for the 2026 Milano-Cortina Olympics and Kilde steadily regaining speed and confidence, the skiing power couple appears stronger than ever—both on and off the slopes.
