New Zealand’s Alice Robinson extended her red-hot streak in giant slalom, powering to victory in the second FIS Alpine Ski World Cup event of the weekend at Tremblant with a commanding performance that solidified her status as the discipline’s early-season force.
The 23-year-old Kiwi, fresh off a win in the opening run on Saturday, delivered two explosive runs on the challenging, variable Quebec piste to finish in a combined time of 2:17.18. Robinson’s aggressive line choices and flawless edge control on the icy sections built an insurmountable lead, marking her third World Cup giant slalom win overall and her second consecutive triumph this season.
Croatia’s Zrinka Ljutić claimed silver with a gritty effort, trailing by 0.94 seconds in 2:18.12, while home-crowd hero Valérie Grenier of Canada erupted in joy with a bronze-medal finish just 1.00 seconds off the pace at 2:18.18. The Ontario native’s strong second-run charge – climbing two spots from fourth – sent the partisan fans into a frenzy, delivering one of the most memorable moments on Canadian snow.
Switzerland’s Camille Rast and France’s Clara Direz rounded out a stacked top five, with American superstar Mikaela Shiffrin battling back to sixth after a disappointing second run dropped her from third.
The weekend double-header at Tremblant showcased the depth of the women’s field, with Robinson now leading the giant slalom standings and Grenier’s podium boosting Canada’s momentum ahead of the North American swing. “This hill has magic – the energy from the crowd pushed me through the tough bits,” Robinson said post-race. “Back-to-back wins here? Unreal.”
