Rising German star Emma Aicher delivered a flawless run on the demanding Corviglia course to win the second women’s downhill of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup weekend, securing her third career World Cup victory and denying Lindsey Vonn a weekend sweep.
The 22-year-old Aicher posted the fastest time among the top 30 starters, edging out American icon Lindsey Vonn by 0.24 seconds. Italy’s Sofia Goggia claimed third place, just 0.29 seconds behind the winner.b2e81d,80904f,ad518c,30ee89,3ae04b,af2b07
After Vonn’s dominant win in Friday’s opener—where she became the oldest woman to claim a World Cup victory at age 41—Aicher flipped the script with a stunning performance that showcased her precision and speed in the tricky sections of the Engadin classic.
“This is an incredible feeling,” Aicher said in the finish area. “To win here in St. Moritz against such strong competition is a dream come true. My run felt perfect today.”
Vonn, who held the lead for much of the race, graciously accepted second place and remains a strong favorite in the downhill discipline standings heading into the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics.
Goggia rounded out an elite podium, maintaining her consistency in speed events despite the intense rivalry at the top.
The St. Moritz weekend wraps up tomorrow with a super-G, promising more high-stakes action on one of alpine skiing’s most prestigious venues.
