Lindsey Vonn’s remarkable comeback continued to sparkle under the Swiss sun on Sunday, as the 41-year-old American powered to a strong fourth-place finish in the World Cup super-G—just 0.27 seconds off the win—capping a dream weekend with unbridled joy and no regrets.
All smiles in the finish area despite narrowly missing the podium, Vonn proved once again that her competitive fire still burns as bright as ever, following her historic downhill victory on Friday and runner-up spot on Saturday.
“It was OK, but definitely not the way I’ve been skiing in training,” Vonn admitted post-race. “I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t push hard enough, but overall, it’s been an incredible weekend.”
New Zealand’s Alice Robinson stole the show with a breakthrough performance, clocking 1:14.84 for her maiden super-G victory—her third win of the season after dominating giant slalom. France’s Romane Miradoli took second (+0.08), while Italy’s Sofia Goggia claimed third (+0.19), edging Vonn by a mere eight hundredths.
The result denied Vonn a perfect podium sweep in St. Moritz, but the Olympic champion’s consistent speed over three races solidified her status as a genuine contender heading into the 2026 Milano-Cortina Games.
Teammate Mikaela Shiffrin, returning to speed events for the first time in nearly two years, suffered a late DNF after missing the penultimate gate, but the U.S. squad still delivered a strong collective showing.
As Vonn heads to Val d’Isère for more speed races next weekend, her radiant confidence and fearless skiing remind the world why she’s alpine skiing’s enduring icon: age is just a number when the passion runs this deep.
