Lindsey Vonn has revealed the quirky “secret” behind her blistering performances at the recent FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in St. Moritz: bananas – and plenty of them – to keep muscle cramps at bay.
The 41-year-old American skiing legend shared the lighthearted insight on social media, posting: “The secret to the St Moritz success?? 🏆 Bananas guys bananas! 🍌🤌🏻 😅 #nevercramp.” She tagged her coach Mune Kawasaki, crediting his banana regimen for her cramp-free runs.
In a playful video, Vonn munched on the fruit while channeling her coach’s wisdom: “You know, Monkey never cramp… We’re healthier because the monkey every day. Banana two. Monkey never cramps. Perfect.”
Bananas are a well-known athlete staple, rich in potassium to help prevent muscle cramps during intense efforts – a smart choice for the high-speed demands of downhill and super-G racing.
Vonn’s St. Moritz weekend was nothing short of historic: She dominated the first downhill for her 83rd career World Cup win (and first since 2018), becoming the oldest woman to triumph in a World Cup event. She followed with a second-place finish the next day and fourth in super-G, all without the cramps that have plagued athletes in the past.
As Vonn heads to Val d’Isère this weekend leading the downhill standings, her banana-powered approach adds a fun twist to her remarkable comeback story – proving that sometimes, the simplest fuels deliver the biggest wins.
