Mikaela Shiffrin, the most decorated alpine skier in World Cup history, is poised to make her highly anticipated return to super-G competition after a two-year absence, expressing a mix of excitement, nervousness, and curiosity ahead of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup event in St. Moritz.

In a heartfelt social media post, the 30-year-old American star shared her raw emotions about stepping back into the super-G starting gate. “Having trouble putting words to describe this feeling—the anticipation of returning to the start of super-G after 2 years,” Shiffrin wrote. “It’s a big step…I’m excited, nervous, and very curious about how it will feel to stand in the gate, or cross the finish line.

Shiffrin, who last competed in super-G in December 2023, has dominated the technical disciplines this season, leading the overall World Cup standings with multiple slalom victories. Her decision to re-enter speed events marks a strategic build-up toward the 2026 Milano-Cortina Olympics, where she aims to compete across multiple disciplines.

Reflecting on past experiences, Shiffrin noted the exhilarating rush that has defined her speed racing: “In the past it’s been exhilarating and always made me think ‘man I just want to go do that again and again…’! Here’s to hoping that’s still the case!” She added that recent training sessions over the summer and fall have reignited that familiar thrill.

Starting with bib 31, Shiffrin will race alongside a strong Stifel U.S. Ski Team contingent, including legendary teammate Lindsey Vonn, in what promises to be an emotional and competitive weekend on the demanding Corviglia course—where Shiffrin has previously claimed multiple victories.

“Here we go!❤️‍🩹 #stifelusskiteam,” Shiffrin concluded, underscoring the team spirit and personal resolve driving her comeback.

The women’s super-G is a pivotal moment in the 2025/26 season, highlighting Shiffrin’s versatility and determination as she chases further glory on snow.
