In a storybook moment that has captivated the skiing world, Lindsey Vonn has officially qualified for the 2026 Winter Olympics, radiating pure joy as she prepares to grace the world’s biggest stage once more.

The 41-year-old American alpine skiing icon, who came out of a five-year retirement in November 2024 following partial knee replacement surgery, secured her spot on the U.S. team in the downhill discipline after a sensational start to the 2025-26 World Cup season. Vonn’s performances have been nothing short of extraordinary, with four podium finishes in her first five races, including a historic victory in the downhill at St. Moritz on December 12 – making her the oldest skier ever to win a World Cup event.

“I am honored to be able to represent my country one more time, in my 5th and final Olympics!” Vonn posted on social media following the announcement. “No matter how these games end up, I feel like I’ve already won.”

Vonn’s return has been fueled by her deep connection to Cortina d’Ampezzo, the venue for the Olympic speed events, where she has claimed 12 World Cup victories – more than anywhere else. “Cortina is the reason,” she has said, describing the Italian slopes as feeling like home.

Her comeback began with strong results last season, but exploded this December: a win in St. Moritz, followed by back-to-back third-place finishes in Val d’Isère. These results not only clinched her Olympic berth but positioned her as a legitimate medal contender in both downhill and super-G.bb25dc,18409e

U.S. Ski & Snowboard CEO Sophie Goldschmidt praised Vonn’s achievement: “Lindsey qualifying for the 2026 Olympic team is a testament to her resilience and dedication, and the remarkable results she’s delivered.”

With three Olympic medals already to her name – gold in downhill (Vancouver 2010) and bronzes in super-G (2010) and downhill (2018) – Vonn’s fifth Games promise to be an emotional farewell. As the Milano Cortina Olympics approach in February, the skiing legend is shining brighter than ever, embodying unbridled joy on snow.
