Mikaela Shiffrin overcame challenging conditions and a first-run deficit to secure her 106th career World Cup win in the women’s slalom at Semmering, Austria, on December 28, 2025. The American skiing superstar rallied in the second run to maintain her perfect record in slalom this season, marking her fifth victory in five events during the 2025-26 campaign and extending her overall streak to six consecutive slalom triumphs.

Shiffrin, who trailed in fourth place after the opening run—0.54 seconds behind leader Camille Rast of Switzerland—produced the fastest second-run time to finish in 1:48.82. She edged out Rast by just 0.09 seconds, with Albania’s Lara Colturi taking third at 0.57 seconds back. The night race under floodlights featured treacherous, choppy snow that led to numerous falls and did-not-finishes, prompting Shiffrin to criticize the course conditions post-race as “unsafe” for competitors.

“It was a really hard day—tough conditions and a big fight,” Shiffrin said in her interview. “The pressure was on, but I did my best possible run. Thank you to the crowd for cheering; on days like this, we do it for you.”

The victory further solidified Shiffrin’s dominance in slalom, where she remains undefeated this season after earlier wins in Levi, Gurgl, Copper Mountain, and Courchevel. As the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics approach, the 30-year-old is eyeing a strong performance to add to her Olympic medal collection after a challenging 2022 Beijing Games.

None were more thrilled than Shiffrin’s fiancé, Norwegian skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. The couple, engaged since April 2024, have been each other’s biggest supporters amid demanding careers. Kilde reposted the official FIS Alpine Instagram celebration on his story, adding queen emojis to express his admiration for her flawless season start.

Shiffrin and Kilde, alpine skiing’s premier power couple since going public in 2021, continue to inspire fans with their mutual encouragement. Kilde, a multiple Olympic medalist himself, has been recovering from injuries but was spotted supporting Shiffrin earlier in the season.
