Legendary American skier Lindsey Vonn capped a dream weekend at the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in Tarvisio with back-to-back podium finishes, marking her triumphant return to the iconic Italian venue after a 15-year absence.
The 41-year-old speed queen, who last raced here in 2011, delivered a masterclass in consistency amid foggy, challenging conditions. On Saturday, January 17, Vonn powered to third place in the women’s downhill (1:46.54, +0.26 behind winner Nicol Delago of Italy), extending her remarkable streak to five consecutive downhill podiums this season. Italy’s Nicol Delago claimed her maiden World Cup victory on home snow in 1:46.28, with Germany’s Kira Weidle-Winkelmann taking silver (+0.20).
Sunday’s super-G brought even more fireworks. Vonn attacked the course with precision, finishing second (+0.27 behind Germany’s Emma Aicher, who won in 1:14.04 for her fourth career victory). Czechia’s Ester Ledecka rounded out the podium in third (+0.94), while U.S. teammate Keely Cashman notched a career-best fifth (+1.11).
Vonn shared her excitement post-race: “🥈🥉 Double podium weekend!! Not too shabby! Thank you @tarvisioskiworldcup for welcoming me back after 15 years away. Excited to get into the last training block this week before heading to Crans Montana and then the Olympics.”
The results underscore Vonn’s resurgence as the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics approach (opening February 6). With seven podiums in eight speed races this season—including six straight in downhill—she’s firmly in medal contention, especially on home-like Italian snow for the Games. Her performance also boosted her discipline standings and kept the spotlight on U.S. speed skiing.
“No rest for the weary,” Vonn hinted, as she gears up for the next stop in Crans-Montana, Switzerland (January 31 onward), one of the final tune-ups before the Olympic alpine events in Cortina.
From doubt to dominance, Vonn’s Tarvisio double podium is the viral fuel fans needed heading into the biggest stage of all. The Queen of Speed is back—and she’s not slowing down.
