Breezy Johnson Breaks Through: First Career Super-G Podium Lights Up Crans-Montana

American speed specialist Breezy Johnson a breakthrough performance on Saturday, January 31, 2026, charging to her first-ever World Cup podium in super-G with a strong third-place finish at Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

Starting from bib 29 on the Mont Lachaux course, the 30-year-old Stifel U.S. Ski Team athlete attacked the technical sections with precision and power, clocking a time just 0.36 seconds behind surprise winner Malorie Blanc (SUI) and 0.18 seconds off runner-up Sofia Goggia (ITA). Johnson’s result marks her ninth career World Cup podium overall — all previous eight coming in downhill, where she is the reigning world champion — but her first in the super-G discipline.

“This means the world to me,” Johnson said post-race, reflecting on a season that included overcoming a back injury from October training that sidelined her from the super-G opener. “I base my performance on trying to ski my best, but when I saw the time and the result, I was shocked!”

The podium came at the perfect moment for Team USA, one day after teammate and legend Lindsey Vonn suffered a left knee injury in Friday’s fog-shortened and ultimately canceled downhill. With Vonn’s Olympic status uncertain ahead of the Milano Cortina 2026 Games, Johnson’s result provided a much-needed boost of momentum and confidence for the American squad in the final women’s Alpine tune-up before the Olympics.

Teammate Mary Bocock also impressed, posting a career-best 15th place to round out a solid day for the U.S. women.

Blanc’s emotional home victory stole the headlines in front of a supportive Swiss crowd still reeling from a tragic New Year’s bar fire, but Johnson’s milestone added an extra layer of celebration to the weekend. With super-G set to feature prominently at the upcoming Olympics (February 12), the American — known for her fearless downhill style — has now proven she can translate that speed and aggression to the slightly more technical super-G format.

Congratulations poured in across social media, with fans and the official FIS Alpine account highlighting the achievement: “First-ever World Cup podium in Super G 🥉👏🏻”

As the Winter Olympics loom just days away, Breezy Johnson’s breakthrough podium serves as a powerful reminder of resilience, timing, and the thrill of finally checking off a long-sought milestone. 🇺🇸🥉
