Olympic skiing legend Lindsey Vonn has shared a raw, heartfelt update on her grueling recovery, revealing she remains completely immobile more than a week after her catastrophic crash at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
In a candid post on X (formerly Twitter) on February 17, the 41-year-old American icon wrote: “Haven’t stood on my feet in over a week… been in a hospital bed immobile since my race. And although I’m not yet able to stand, being back on home soil feels amazing ❤️🇺🇸 Huge thank you to everyone in Italy for taking good care of me.”
The message came shortly after Vonn’s arduous journey home from Italy, where she spent over a week in Ca’ Foncello Hospital in Treviso following her February 8 crash during the women’s downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Racing despite a recently ruptured ACL, Vonn hooked a gate, lost control, and suffered a severe complex tibia fracture in her left leg just seconds into the run. She was airlifted off the mountain and underwent four surgeries in rapid succession to stabilize the injury, including placement of an external fixator.
Accompanying her update, Vonn shared a video montage documenting the challenging transfer: from ICU ambulance to plane, then another ambulance to a U.S. hospital. In related Instagram posts, she described her leg as “still in pieces” but expressed optimism about the next phase. “Thankful to all of the medical staff who helped me get home 🙏🏻❤️ and seriously looking forward to my next surgery when I can get the X-fix out of my leg and will be able to move more,” she added.
Vonn’s resilience shines through despite the setback. She has repeatedly emphasized no regrets about competing, calling it the “gamble of chasing your dreams,” and clarified that her prior ACL tear played no role in the crash. Fans have flooded her social media with support, praising her strength and spirit.
As Vonn settles back in the United States for ongoing treatment and additional procedures, the skiing world continues to rally around one of its greatest champions. Her transparent updates not only highlight the brutal realities of elite sport but also her unbreakable determination to heal and move forward—one step (when possible) at a time. Wishing Lindsey a strong, steady recovery.
