What an INCREDIBLE weekend for Italy on home snow. Elena Curtoni has done it — the 35-year-old veteran stormed to victory in the women’s Super-G at Val di Fassa, claiming her fourth World Cup win and ending a heart-wrenching 1178-day wait since her last triumph (back in December 2022 downhill in St. Moritz).
Curtoni clocked a flawless 1:29.07 on the demanding La Volata course, holding off Norway’s Kajsa Vickhoff Lie by just 0.26 seconds for silver. But the party really exploded when Italy’s Asja Zenere, starting from bib 33, delivered a massive surprise — her FIRST EVER World Cup podium in third place, only 0.27 seconds back at 1:29.34! Double Italian joy on the podium — the crowd went wild.
This victory caps a dream weekend sweep for the hosts after strong results in the downhills. Curtoni, with her experience and grit, proved age is just a number and delivered a masterclass in speed and precision. Meanwhile, Mikaela Shiffrin picked up points in a rare Super-G start to boost her overall lead, despite the Italian dominance.
What a story of perseverance and home-crowd energy! Elena, you’re an inspiration — and Asja, welcome to the podium club.
