Mikaela Shiffrin has extended her World Cup overall lead to 140 points with an eighth slalom win from nine races in Åre, Sweden. The American skiing sensation has already secured the slalom crystal globe and has now achieved her 109th World Cup victory across all disciplines, cementing her position as one of the greatest skiers in history.
Shiffrin’s closest rival, Emma Aicher of Germany, finished second in the race, 0.94 seconds behind the American. Switzerland’s Wendy Holdener rounded out the podium in third place.
This win strengthens Shiffrin’s position in the overall World Cup standings, with only four events remaining at the World Cup finals in Norway. She is chasing a sixth overall Crystal Globe and is the favorite to claim the title.
Shiffrin has tied the record for most slalom wins in a single World Cup season, a milestone previously reached only by Janica Kostelic 25 years ago. Her victory in Åre marks her 72nd career World Cup slalom win and 109th overall victory.
