Lindsey Vonn isn’t hanging up her skis just yet — and she’s not afraid to tell the haters exactly that.
The 41-year-old skiing legend, who made a stunning comeback to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina after six years in retirement, suffered a devastating crash in the women’s downhill that left her with a complex tibia fracture, multiple surgeries, and a terrifying brush with leg amputation due to compartment syndrome.
As she focuses on recovery, fans and critics flooded her social media with unsolicited advice to call it quits. One commenter didn’t hold back: “The ego is so strong with this one. Take your medicine Lindsey. You nearly lost your leg. Put your feet up and be done.”
Vonn fired back without missing a beat.
“I think you’re mistaking my ego for joy,” she replied. “I’ve said it my whole life; I love skiing. I’ll put my feet up when I’m good and ready thank you.”
In a longer, more pointed post on X, Vonn made her stance crystal clear:
“No, I’m not ready to discuss my future in skiing. My focus has been on recovering from my injury and getting back to normal life. I was already retired for six years and have an amazing life outside of skiing. It was incredible to be #1 in the world again at 41 years old and set new records in my sport, but at my age, I’m the only one who will decide my future. I don’t need anyone’s permission to do what makes me happy. Maybe that means racing again, maybe it doesn’t. Only time will tell. Please stop telling me what I should or should not do. I’ll let you know when I decide.”
She added for good measure: “Just because I’m not ready to talk about retiring, doesn’t mean I’m racing. It means I’m not ready to think about it yet. Rehab and recovery first… decide on where I go next in life later. Lots of life left to live.”
The Olympic medalist even addressed her father’s public plea for her to stop racing, standing firm that the decision is hers alone.
Vonn’s unapologetic response has sparked massive support online, with fans praising her resilience and reminding everyone why she’s one of the greatest skiers of all time. After dominating the sport, stepping away, then returning to top form at 41 — only to battle back from a career-threatening injury — the message is loud and clear: Lindsey Vonn writes her own ending.
Whether she laces up again or not, one thing is certain — she’ll do it on her terms, joy intact.
