One year after American skiing legend Mikaela Shiffrin made history by securing her 100th FIS Alpine Ski World Cup victory on the iconic Kandahar G.A. Agnelli slope in Sestriere, the Italian resort has unveiled a powerful artistic tribute to the milestone.
On Sunday, March 29, 2026, the Sestriere Ski World Cup Organizing Committee and the Municipality of Sestriere officially revealed the sculpture, created by renowned Italian artist Maurizio Perron. The artwork was commissioned in collaboration with Shiffrin’s team and will serve as a permanent legacy of her extraordinary achievement.
The moment on February 23, 2025, when Shiffrin crossed the finish line in Sestriere to become the first alpine skier ever to reach 100 World Cup wins remains unforgettable. The roar of the crowd on the Vialattea slopes marked a defining chapter in skiing history.
Gualtiero Brasso, President of the Organizing Committee, described the emotion of that day as “indescribable” and emphasized the need to create a tangible legacy. “We had to leave a lasting mark of this achievement,” he said, thanking Shiffrin and her team for their support, along with Perron’s artistic talent.
Sestriere Mayor Gianni Poncet added that the sculpture adds “another jewel” to the resort’s rich sporting heritage: “Mikaela Shiffrin’s achievement could not remain just a statistic. Immortalizing it through art was the perfect way to celebrate this historic page written in Sestriere.”
The sculpture, crafted from durable stainless steel to withstand the harsh mountain conditions at 2,035 meters altitude, features a bold design: the number “100” supported by two crossed skis, with the inscription “MIK.” The central zero draws inspiration from the stylized shape of the FIS Crystal Globe, adding a symbolic touch. Its satin-finished surface enhances vibrancy and texture.
Currently on display at the Sestriere Tourist Office, the sculpture will be permanently installed this summer on a large rock, with the legendary Kandahar slope providing a dramatic natural backdrop.
Shiffrin, already the most decorated alpine skier of all time, continues to dominate — recently clinching her record-tying sixth overall World Cup title and pushing her career win tally well beyond 100. This artistic honor in Sestriere cements her legacy not just in record books, but in the very landscape where she achieved skiing immortality.
A fitting tribute to a true champion who keeps redefining greatness on the slopes.
