Ally McCoist has highlighted one Manchester City player he thinks is one of the most important in the team.
After winning the Treble last season, the Blues are in the race to regain the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League this time around.
Ahead of tonight’s big showdown against Real Madrid in the quarter-final of the Champions League, one pundit has taken the time to share his thoughts one one particular figure in the City squad he thinks is very significant.
McCoist suggests Man City really miss one particular player
Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist had this to say about the one figure in Pep Guardiola’s ranks he feels is particularly important for City.
He said: “Isn’t it amazing, you look at all the talent in that City team. All those technical gifted players, [Phil] Foden, [Kevin] De Bruyne, all these kind of guys.
“But one which they really, really miss is Kyle Walker, whose speed and defensive qualities and strengths going forward is a player who I say they can’t do without, but I certainly think they miss him.”
This season has seen Walker feature in 38 games for the Citizens across all competitions, starting all but one of them.
The City captain has been out of action since the previous international break where he picked up an injury whilst playing for England.
However, he was on the bench for Saturday’s 5-1 win over Luton Town and trained with the rest of the group ahead of tonight’s game against Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Kyle Walker could be a key player for Man City against Real Madrid
Looking ahead to the match against Real, Walker found himself on the end of some heavy praise from Thierry Henry for the way he used his speed and strength to keep Vinicius Junior quiet in last season’s game between the two sides at the Etihad.
This shows why McCoist thinks these aspects of Walker’s game make him so important for the Blues.
In our view, if he’s fully fit enough to play, tonight’s game could be another opportunity for the 33-year-old to show a lot of people how important he is for City.
