Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland will make his video game debut – by appearing in Clash of Clans.
The Norwegian goal machine, 23, has partnered up with the iconic mobile game, where he is set to become its first ever playable character. Haaland will become the famous ‘Barbarian King’, being immortalised in a football-themed seasonal game event.
Fans will be able to play as the City striker from Wednesday May 1, where they can enjoy a host of football-related features throughout the game. They will also be able to go up against the Nordic powerhouse’s in-game village.
The forward, who has netted 32 goals this term, is a long-time fan of the game, which has been downloaded over two billion times. He has even built an impressive in-game village, which led to the collaboration taking place.
Speaking on becoming a playable character, Haaland said: “It’s been tough to keep this one quiet, but I’m excited to finally be able to talk about this epic partnership with Clash of Clans.
“I’ve been a huge fan of the game for a long time and know everything about it, so to appear as an in-game character is really cool.”
Stuart McGaw, Clash of Clans General Manager, said: “When we heard Erling Haaland was a fan of our game and that he wanted to partner with us, it was really a dream scenario.
“Our team did everything we could to bring him, one of the world’s best athletes, into the world of the game so our players could enjoy a truly special moment.”
