Manchester City has once again been linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz. Despite the new report, it does appear that a summer move for the German is unlikely to happen this summer.
A new report from Javier Peña for Fichajes indicates that Manchester City and three other clubs are eager to sign Florian Wirtz this summer. Peña adds that Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Liverpool all have eyes on the Bayer Leverkusen star. Furthermore, Peña also reports that Bayer Leverkusen do not want to sell one of their star players this summer.
Manchester City will likely have to wait before they make any move for Florian Wirtz.
It is no secret that Florian Wirtz is one of the hottest properties in world football. He has played a starring role for Xabi Alonso’s side as Bayer Leverkusen have won their first ever Bundesliga title this season. They are also unbeaten in all competitions so far this season, which is a remarkable achievement. Wirtz has added 18 goals and 19 assists as he has been one of the standout performers for Bayer Leverkusen this season.
It is this strong form that has put Wirtz on Manchester City’s and a host of other clubs’ radar. But it appears that any summer move for Florian Wirtz from Manchester City seems unlikely. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has previously reported that the Bundesliga champions have no intention of selling the German international this summer. With that in mind, it does seem that any move from the world champions for the Bayer Leverkusen star will have to wait until next summer.

As a player, Florian Wirtz appears ideally suited to thrive at Manchester City. With his playmaking ability and eye for goal, Wirtz looks like the perfect addition to City’s midfield. While Manchester City would face a battle to secure his signature in the future, if they could land the German international, he could immediately slot into the world champions lineup.
A time will come in the distant future when Manchester City will have to replace players such as Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva. While the Bayer Leverkusen star isn’t a like for like replacement for Bernardo, he could potentially be City’s long-term successor to Kevin De Bruyne. Wirtz is a similar player to the Manchester City legend, so it isn’t out of the realms of possibility that he could one day replace De Bruyne at the Etihad. But as it stands, that may not be something that could come to fruition for some time.
Given the outstanding displays from Florian Wirtz, it is only natural that he will be linked with a move to Manchester City. But any move for the playmaker doesn’t seem likely this summer. It appears a transfer that may become one to watch in the 2025 summer window.
