Man city finally ‘make decision’ on Joao Cancelo future as Man City…return?

Manchester City are ‘ready to move’ for highly-rated Everton goalkeeper Douglas Lukjanciks ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

That is according to a report by The Sun, which states City could ‘pay as much as £10million’ for his services. The Blues are always hungry to add young and upcoming talent to their ranks and Lukjanciks is a player who fits the bill.

Despite only being 16, the shot-stopper has already represented Everton at Under-18 level and has earned two caps for England’s Under-17s. He has also represented the Three Lions at Under-16 level.

The report states that Lukjanciks has been ‘chased by several clubs’ but it is City who are now ‘keen’ on securing his signature. One of the clubs reportedly interested in him are Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.
Furthermore, the report adds that City could send a homegrown player to Goodison Park as part of an exchange deal. Lukjanciks has dual nationality thanks to his Latvian heritage, meaning he would count as a domestic player in all other major European leagues.

Everton need to remain mindful of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules [PSR] this summer and they have already confirmed they will need to sell players this summer to raise funds. A cluster of their players are being linked with exits, such as Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana.

Meanwhile, Spanish outfit Barcelona are ‘only interested’ in re-signing Joao Cancelo on another loan deal ahead of this summer’s transfer window. That is according to Spanish publication Sport, as cited by Sport Witness, which claims they do not want to sign him on a permanent basis.

The Portuguese joined Barcelona on a season-long loan deal last September and has made 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals. It is reported that Barcelona would like to keep hold of Cancelo and continue working with him, but they only want to sign him on another loan deal.

Cancelo is under contract at City until the summer of 2027, meaning it would take a sizeable transfer fee to sign him. However, he reportedly wants to stay at Barcelona, making the situation potentially difficult to resolve.
