NBA insiders say the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets are ready to make trade offers for Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell. If Mitchell doesn’t sign a contract extension with the Cavaliers this summer, he might be traded. Mitchell has the option to sign a four-year extension worth about £200 million this summer, but if he doesn’t, he can become a free agent in 2025.
There’s a growing belief among NBA teams that the Cavaliers will trade Mitchell if they can’t agree on an extension this offseason. Mitchell, who was traded to the Cavaliers from the Utah Jazz in 2022, had a great season, averaging 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game.
The Cavaliers are struggling in the playoffs against the Boston Celtics, trailing 3-1 in the series. Mitchell missed Game 4 due to a calf injury and will also miss Game 5.
Although Mitchell doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract, he’s been linked to other teams like the Miami Heat and New York Knicks. The Cavaliers lost to the Knicks in the playoffs last year and are likely to be eliminated by the Celtics this year.
