What Mauricio Pochettino’s camp are now saying about his Chelsea future

Mauricio Pochettino has really turned things around at Chelsea, but his future at the club is still far from guaranteed.

After spending the majority of the season in mid-table, Chelsea are now sixth in the Premier League and can finish in fifth if they beat Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur lose to Sheffield United.

In their last four top-flight fixtures, Mauricio Pochettino has guided the Blues to four wins, the latest a 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.

It means Chelsea need just a point from their last game of the season to qualify for the Europa League, though Manchester United winning the FA Cup would relegate them to the Europa Conference League.

Cole Palmer recently made it clear that Pochettino has the full support of the dressing room.

Does Mauricio Pochettino want to stay at Chelsea?
It has not been a smooth season for Pochettino at Chelsea.

The 52-year-old has had to deal with a lot of injuries and constant speculation about his future, which has not been addressed by his superiors.
Nevertheless, it does look like Pochettino wants to remain at Stamford Bridge.

According to journalist Rahman Osman, “the feeling within Pochettino’s camp” is that the Argentine wants to continue as Chelsea boss. However, he wants to have a bigger say on transfers.

Right now, co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley are the men who are largely responsible for the club’s recruitment.

If Pochettino is allowed to give more input on transfers, it would not be a shock to see Chelsea make a move for Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.

Journalist Simon Phillips claimed at the end of last year that Pochettino believes his compatriot is one of the best strikers in the world and is an admirer of his.

Martinez has had an incredible season in Serie A, scoring 24 goals in 32 appearances to help Simone Inzaghi’s side win the title.

With Nicolas Jackson being the only striker in Chelsea’s squad, the Blues need another No.9. Perhaps Martinez could be their man.
