Caitlin Clark sporting a black eye after Game 1 loss to Connecticut Sun

Caitlin Clark’s WNBA playoff debut didn’t go as planned – the Indiana Fever lost 93-69 to the Connecticut Sun, and to make matters worse, Clark ended the game with a black eye. The injury occurred early in the game when DiJonai Carrington poked Clark in the eye while trying to intercept a pass. Clark was visibly shaken but continued playing, finishing with 11 points, eight assists, and four rebounds.

Despite the rough start, Clark refused to blame her struggles on the injury. When asked about the impact of the black eye, Clark said it didn’t affect her shooting, acknowledging she got good shots but simply didn’t make them. Clark’s shooting woes were evident, as she went 4-17 from the floor and 2-13 from the 3-point line.

The loss highlighted the experience gap between the Fever and the Sun, with Connecticut’s 222 playoff games under their belt dwarfing Indiana’s 19. The Sun’s Alyssa Thomas led the charge with a triple-double, while DeWanna Bonner chipped in with 22 points.

The Fever will look to bounce back in Game 2 on Wednesday, with Clark seeking to redeem herself and keep Indiana’s season alive. Despite the setback, Clark’s determination and resilience have fans hopeful for a stronger performance in the next matchup.
