The Cleveland Browns’ 2024 season has gotten off to a disappointing start, largely due to struggles on offense. While quarterback Deshaun Watson has underperformed, the team’s offensive line has been a significant liability, unable to block effectively.
Watson’s subpar play isn’t entirely his fault, but the Browns are committed to him due to his $230 million guaranteed contract, which still has two years remaining after this season. Rather than replacing Watson, Cleveland will focus on upgrading the talent around him.
A recent CBS mock draft by Blake Brockermeyer offers a potential solution. With the 13th overall pick, the Browns select LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell. Brockermeyer praises Campbell’s footwork, quickness, and blindside protection skills, citing his three-year track record in the SEC.
Campbell’s arrival would bolster the Browns’ offensive line, potentially replacing left tackle Jedrick Wills, who has struggled with injuries and inconsistency since being drafted in 2020. Wills’ contract is likely to expire, making way for Campbell to take over and potentially become an elite tackle.
By drafting Campbell, the Browns would address a critical need and provide Watson with better protection. Campbell’s skills would translate immediately, strengthening the offense and giving Cleveland a foundation to build upon for the 2025 season.
