Tennessee football has risen to No. 4 in the AP Poll after Week Five, despite having a bye week. The Vols benefited from Alabama’s upset victory over Georgia, which allowed them to move up one spot.
However, former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy believes Tennessee deserves an even higher ranking. On Omaha Productions’ “Always College Football” show, McElroy placed the Vols at No. 3, leapfrogging Ohio State.
McElroy cited Tennessee’s impressive road win over Oklahoma as justification for their elevated ranking. He emphasized the dominance of the Vols’ performance, stating that the 10-point margin of victory felt much larger.
Tennessee and Ohio State have both started the season strongly, making it challenging to determine which team deserves the No. 3 spot. The Vols will have an opportunity to make a statement on Saturday night when they face Arkansas on the road.
A win over Arkansas, who has exceeded expectations this season, would solidify Tennessee’s position as one of the top programs in college football. McElroy’s endorsement adds to the growing hype surrounding the Vols, who aim to continue their momentum in the highly competitive SEC.
