The Cleveland Browns have released running back Gary Brightwell, signed just two weeks ago, as they prepare for the impending return of star running back Nick Chubb. Brightwell contributed on special teams but didn’t receive a carry in two games. His departure leaves Jerome Ford and D’Onta Foreman as the healthy running backs on the active roster.
Chubb, who started the season on the physically unable to perform list, is set to practice with the team for the first time in over a year. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Chubb’s return to practice, saying, “He’s working very hard… The natural progression is for him to start practicing.” The team has 21 days to add Chubb to the 53-man roster.
Chubb’s return is eagerly anticipated, as the Browns’ offense struggles to find rhythm. Averaging just 246.3 yards per game
