Christopher Nkunku has provided a coy update about his future with Chelsea amid links to a Paris Saint-Germain return.
Nkunku began his career in the French capital, before breaking into the senior side and making over 70 appearances for PSG.
Quizzed on if he’d fancy going back to PSG in the near future, a calm collected Nkunku batted away the claim, insisting his focus remains with Chelsea.
Speaking in an interview with Telefoot, Nkunku said: “PSG remains a big club, but there has not been one approach.”
Nkunku arrived at Stamford Bridge as part of Todd Boehly and co’s second summer spending spree with the capital club.
Penning a six-year deal, Nkunku’s transfer from RB Leipzig set Chelsea back a cool £52million, but the Frenchman endured a frustrating first season.
A knee problem picked up in pre-season meant Nkunku didn’t make his Premier League debut until December and after his comeback, the forward would only make a handful of appearances before picking up a separate hamstring injury in early February.
Nkunku has returned with a fresh bill of health this season and despite finding starts under new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca hard to come by, the 26-year-old has been in strong scoring form.
Netting seven goals during 11 games across all competitions, Nkunku appears to have rediscovered his spark after a difficult 12 months with the Blues.
It’s positive news for Maresca, as the Italian looks to guide Chelsea back into the Champions League this season while going on the hunt for yet more European glory in the Conference League.
However, Maresca could risk upsetting Nkunku if his minutes are reserved for substitute appearances.
Nicolas Jackson has been handed the number-nine starting berth in most of Chelsea’s matches this season – something Maresca recently acknowledged.
