The 2024-25 Alpine skiing World Cup season kicks off this weekend in Sölden, Austria, featuring women’s and men’s giant slaloms. NBC Sports, Peacock and skiandsnowboard.live will broadcast the action live from October through March. American skiing sensation Mikaela Shiffrin headlines the competition.

Mikaela Shiffrin, with 97 career World Cup victories, is poised to become the second athlete to win 100 individual events in any Winter Olympic discipline. Last season, she dominated with nine wins despite an 11-race absence due to injury. Shiffrin’s remarkable resilience sets the stage for a historic campaign.

The United States hosts crucial World Cup stops, including women’s races in Killington, Vermont (Nov. 30-Dec. 1), men’s events in Beaver Creek, Colorado (Dec. 6-8) and women’s competitions in Beaver Creek (Dec. 14-15). The World Cup Finals take place in Sun Valley, Idaho, in March.

Swiss skier Marco Odermatt aims to secure his fourth consecutive overall season title, joining Austrian legends Annemarie Moser-Pröll and Marcel Hirscher. Hirscher, retired since 2019, surprisingly announces his return to competition this season.

February’s biennial world championships in Saalbach, Austria, promise intense rivalry. Shiffrin and Odermatt lead contenders vying for glory. The championships provide a pivotal midpoint test before the World Cup Finals.

Fans can catch live action on NBC Sports, Peacock and skiandsnowboard.live. Comprehensive coverage ensures enthusiasts won’t miss key moments, from Shiffrin’s pursuit of 100 wins to Hirscher’s comeback.

Intriguing storylines unfold: Shiffrin’s quest for history, Odermatt’s title defense and Hirscher’s unexpected return. New talent emerges, challenging established stars. The season guarantees thrilling Alpine skiing action.
