Manchester City are no strangers when it comes to selling players for considerable transfer fees.
For instance, City have cashed in on big names such as Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer, Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus among many others in recent years.
The previous summer transfer window was no different, as numerous figures from City’s squad ended up waving goodbye to the Etihad Stadium to join new clubs elsewhere.
However, despite only a couple of months having gone by since this last window, Pep Guardiola’s side have set their sights on bringing one of their most recent departures back to the club.
Man City interested in re-signing Liam Delap
According to a recent report from Caught Offside, City are interested in signing Liam Delap, despite selling the striker to Ipswich Town during the previous summer transfer window.
The report also adds that Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Aston Villa also have an interest in the former City youngster, who Ipswich could ask for £40m to sell even in January.
Darren Bent claims Delap ‘has a point to prove’
After working his way through City’s youth academy and making six senior appearances for the club, Delap joined Ipswich in a deal worth £20m (via BBC Sport).
Before the move was officially announced, Fabrizio Romano said that City have a 20% sell-on clause for Delap, but didn’t mention anything about a buy-back clause.
Since then, the 21-year-old has scored four goals in eight league games with the Tractors.
The Englishman’s short time with Kieran McKenna’s side has been eye-catching, as earlier this month, Darren Bent gave this verdict about Delap’s move from City to Ipswich and how he’s fared at his new club so far.
He said: “It’s a steal now, but at the time people thought oh that’s a lot of money for someone we don’t know if he could cut it week in, week out.
“But he’s almost stepped up like he’s got a point to prove. The way he plays is like you know what, I’m going to show everybody I’m a good player, so yeah he’s a hit.”
Bent had also described Delap’s performances for Ipswich as “brilliant” this season, showcasing why he now has so many clubs, including his previous one, interested in signing him.
Moving forward, even though City have Erling Haaland as their main striker, it’ll be interesting to see if they make an attempt to bring Delap back to Manchester in the near future.
