Mike Tyson has shared a video of his sparring session ahead of his much-anticipated bout with Jake Paul, sparking worry among boxing enthusiasts who suspect the 58-year-old might be nursing an injury.
The legendary ‘Iron Mike’ is set to make a dramatic comeback to the ring next month, facing off against ‘The Problem Child’, who is 31 years younger than him. Tyson hasn’t participated in a professional fight since his defeat to Kevin McBride in 2005, although he did step into the ring for an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr four years ago.
The high-profile face-off between the two pugilists is slated for November 15 at the AT&T Arena in Arlington, Texas. The pair were originally scheduled to meet earlier this year, but Tyson had to withdraw from the initial match in July due to an ulcer flare-up.
Since his professional debut in 2020, Paul has been a regular competitor in the ring. With a record of 10 wins and one loss, the 27 year old has triumphed over notable names such as Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva, and Nate Diaz. His sole defeat in the sport was a points loss to Tommy Fury last year.
Tyson’s health has sparked concern amongst fans prior to the heavyweight clash, with many criticising the decision for the bout to proceed. Heightened worries emerged after fans observed potential signs of injury in recent footage of ‘Iron Mike’.
A concerned fan noted: “Hope right knee is holding. Is it an injury? ” The video reveals Tyson, 58, striking a heavy bag and sparring, while also sporting a knee support on his right leg, suggesting he might have a minor problem ahead of fight night.
However, the clip also raised other alarms. One viewer remarked: “I think I know why there are so many jump cuts. You are going to be gassed in 20 seconds.”
Another suggested grim prospects: “I’m starting to think that dudes in some serious trouble. Hope his insurance is paid up. All that money will buy a nice wheelchair.”
Someone else added: “We see these 10 second clips of furious power and speed …. It’s the 15mins of recovery afterwards we don’t see. Silly fight, with silly caveats in the contract to make it last but as well all know … money ru(i)ns this world now.”
Finally, another expressed skepticism, saying: “I’ve yet to see 2 min of straight action lol.”
While some fans have expressed concern over the video, others remain optimistic about the upcoming heavyweight bout in November. One fan commented: “If anyone can turn back the clock one more time, it’s Mike,” Another wrote: “Let’s go champ. Iron Mike aging like fine wine. Show them what we missed all these years and deliver a knuckle sandwich knockout.”
A third fan posted: “Can’t wait either mate, I have not watched boxing since the early 90’s, going to watch this one for sure.”
Another user simply stated: “Jake is f****
