The Los Angeles Lakers headed into the 2024-25 NBA season after having one of their worst offseason in recent memory, as the team was determined to make a significant move in free agency or with a trade and couldn’t accomplish either.
Along with falling flat in free agency and on the trade market, the team made some questionable moves that have been highly criticized, like drafting Bronny James and hiring first-timer JJ Redick to be their new head coach to replace Darvin Ham.
Although there was a lot of negative attention on the Lakers over the summer, the team has played much better than expected to start the season, with Los Angeles only just coming off its first loss, losing to the division-rival Phoenix Suns late in the fourth quarter on Monday night.
Despite playing better than expected at this point, the consensus seems to be that the Lakers will make a move if they can get a significant upgrade, especially in the frontcourt, which has them as the favorite to land Utah Jazz big man Walker Kessler, according to Bovada via NBA Central.
The Lakers have been looking for the ideal big to play alongside superstar Anthony Davis, but they haven’t been able to find that player.
However, if they can someone convince the Jazz to part ways with Kessler, the Lakers would bring in a potential game-changer and might get some buzz as a massively improved team in the Western Conference with title-contending aspirations this season.
