Saddened by Rival’s Absence, Mikaela Shiffrin Reveals Reason for Missing Petra Vlhová at Levi World Cup: “So Hard”

As Mikaela Shiffrin gears up to chase her 100th World Cup win in Levi, Lapland, the atmosphere feels distinctly different without her fiercest rival, Petra Vlhova. Vlhova’s season-ending knee injury has left a void, and Shiffrin acknowledges the thrill of their intense battles will be deeply missed.

Shiffrin and Vlhova’s rivalry has defined their careers, pushing each other to unprecedented heights. Their legendary battles in Levi have become a hallmark of the World Cup circuit. Shiffrin fondly recalls their shared intensity, describing it as “really pretty cool” to reflect on their decade-long competition.

Shiffrin admits that Vlhova’s absence will be palpable in Levi. “We will be feeling her absence for sure,” she acknowledges. Their rivalry has driven Shiffrin to improve, and Vlhova’s recent performances at Levi were among the best she’s ever witnessed. “Some of her recent runs are really the best I’ve ever seen on this slope, and it motivates me to try harder.”

Without Vlhova, the energy in Levi feels different. Shiffrin recently expressed her sentiments on social media, wishing Vlhova a full recovery and noting that it’s “just not the same” without her longtime competitor. This sentiment echoes throughout the skiing community, as fans and athletes alike miss the electrifying rivalry.

As Shiffrin pursues her milestone 100th World Cup win, she does so without the familiar push from Vlhova. Despite this, Shiffrin remains focused, driven by her own determination and the desire to excel.

Levi has been the stage for many of Shiffrin’s unforgettable moments since her debut in 2012. The Finnish course holds special significance, and Shiffrin is well-aware of the history she’s made there. This season, she’ll aim to add to her impressive tally without Vlhova’s presence.

Shiffrin’s admiration for Vlhova’s skiing prowess is evident. She praises Vlhova’s recent runs as among the best she’s ever seen, highlighting the mutual respect and admiration between the two athletes. Their rivalry has elevated the sport, and its absence will be deeply felt.

As Shiffrin and Vlhova’s rivalry takes a temporary hiatus, the women’s skiing landscape shifts. Emerging talent will vie for the top spot, but the void left by Vlhova’s absence serves as a reminder of the incredible rivalry that has captivated audiences worldwide.
