‘We literally just stood and froze’ – Oklahoma Sooners’ Porter Moser reacts to monumental moment in program history

The Oklahoma Sooners men’s basketball team suffered a monumental loss to LSU on Saturday night, a defeat that has left the team reeling and searching for answers. The Sooners, who started the season undefeated, have struggled in conference play, and this latest loss has all but extinguished their hopes of making the tournament.

Head coach Porter Moser was visibly shaken by the loss, taking full responsibility for his team’s disorganization and lack of execution down the stretch. “For us being disorganized? That’s on me,” Moser said in the post-game press conference. “We talked about it the last two days. Eventually, that’s what I told everybody, if right there, we got it in, Jalon was 8-for-8 from the foul line.”

Moser’s frustration was palpable as he described the final moments of the game, where his team froze and failed to execute. “We literally just froze and stood. Three guys almost on top of each other just looking at Jalon.” This lack of composure and poise under pressure proved to be the difference-maker in the game, as LSU capitalized on the Sooners’ mistakes to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

The loss was all the more galling given the circumstances. LSU was the second-worst team in the conference, with only one SEC win on the year, and had not won a game in a month. The Sooners, on the other hand, had been one of the top teams in the country just a few weeks ago, but have since fallen off a cliff.

Moser acknowledged that his team’s struggles in conference play have been a source of frustration, but emphasized that he remains committed to his players and the process of improving. “My faith has always been the foundation. Sometimes you don’t know why the good Lord puts you in these positions. The only thing I know how to do is to pour into these young men and teach them and show them how to be better and close out these tough games.”

As the Sooners look to regroup and recover from this crushing loss, Moser’s words serve as a reminder that adversity can be a powerful teacher. The team’s struggles in conference play have exposed weaknesses and areas for improvement, and it is up to Moser and his coaching staff to help their players learn from these mistakes and grow as a result.

In the end, the Sooners’ loss to LSU was a harsh reminder of the unforgiving nature of college basketball. One moment of indecision, one miscalculation, can be the difference between victory and defeat. As Moser and his team look to bounce back from this setback, they will need to draw on every ounce of resilience and determination they possess.

The road ahead will not be easy, but with Moser at the helm, the Sooners can take heart in knowing that they have a leader who is committed to helping them grow and improve. As they navigate the challenges of conference play, they will need to draw on every lesson they have learned, every moment of adversity they have faced, to emerge stronger, wiser, and more resilient than ever before.
